It’s not too early for youth soccer players and coaches to start forming teams to compete in one of Brevard’s top tournaments in December.

The Space Coast 3v3 Challenge will be played Dec. 6 and 7 at Viera Regional Park.
Hosted by the Space Coast United Soccer Club and organized by Challenge Sports Inc., the tournament is open to teams competing in the Under-6 to Under-18 divisions.
Teams can carry a maximum of six players on rosters and will play a minimum of four games in the tournament.
The event gives awards to the top three teams in each age division, according to Al Genchi of Challenge Sports.
He said the entry fee for teams is $185, with a discounted rate of $155 for teams that register to play before Nov. 27.
All players who compete in the tournament will receive a complimentary T-shirt during check-in.
Genchi said only players registered with the Florida Youth Soccer Association or the Aemrican Youth Soccer Organization are eligible to participate. Teams must present proof of such registration upon check-in.
Challenge Sports has been staging tournaments in Florida since 1988 and this is the eighth year that the organization has staged the Space Coast 3v3 Challenge.
Rules for 3v3 soccer vary from a full-sided soccer game, which has 11 players on each team.
In 3v3 soccer, the playing field is 40 yards long by 30 yards wide for ages Under-10 and higher.
Players competing in the Under-6 to Under-8 age groups play on a 30 by 20 yard field. The goals are four feet high by six feet wide.
Players must stay upright and “on their feet” and may not make contact with opposing players.
Goals may only be scored from a touch within a team’s offensive half of the field.
